Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

The Client:

The client is an experienced and dynamic Mechanical and Electrical Consultancy. They have an in-house Sustainability Team that aligns with their commitment to providing advice that prioritizes sustainability and longevity.

Due to business growth, new project wins, and team expansion, the client is seeking Senior/Principal Mechanical Design Engineers. These professionals should have experience and a desire to lead new projects, while continuing to learn and grow within both the Building Services Industry and the organization.

The New Role:

The main purpose of this role is to design mechanical engineering systems for building services. In this position, the successful candidate will:

• Lead mechanical design strategies
• Serve as the project lead and main point of contact for clients across various projects
• Liaise with the technical and quality teams during the design process and coordinate regular feedback sessions
• Prepare technical specifications and mechanical design drawings using industry-standard software
• Develop tender documentation and reports
• Ensure agreed information release dates are met
• Survey and report on mechanical systems in buildings
• Conduct design calculations
• Design mechanical installations in compliance with British Standards
• Create design proposals at sketch, detailed design, and production stages
• Demonstrate a passion for mechanical design engineering and a willingness to learn
• Attend sites to assess the quality of M&E systems during installation, using in-house defects software
• Mentor junior engineers to support their development
• Manage and build client and design team relationships for continuous business development opportunities

Requirements for Success:

The ideal candidate will have mechanical design experience and the following qualifications:

• At least 5 years of experience in a building services design role
• HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent in Building Services or a related subject
• Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Hevacomp, and IES
• Experience contributing to design team meetings
• Strong collaboration and teamwork skills
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Willingness to travel to project sites as needed
