Fyba Talent have an excellent opportunity for a Design Manager for a client of ours based within the water industry. This would be a full time, permanent role requiring site/office visits, and the opportunity to WFH.


You will be responsible for managing internal and external Design Package deliverables with a multi-discipline engineering team (MEICA & Civil). You will manage the tender and detailed design processes ensuring technical governance of project outputs in accordance with CDM requirements. You will ensure all technical deliverables are produced on time and to the satisfaction of the client/project manager and are consistent with engineering standards and best practice including CDM and safety standards.


Further Roles/Responsibilities:

  • Assist the project planner in developing and keeping up to date the detailed design management project programme
  • Develop and maintain the design deliverables plan in collaboration with the project delivery team including all technical upstream and downstream delivery requirements
  • Supply chain management when developing the design including ensuring supplier tenders are checked for compliance and engineering correctness
  • Manage resources to ensure that deliverables are delivered in line with project programme
  • Development of scheme tender designs and assist with estimating to ensure that Tender deadlines are met
  • Manage design inputs and outputs upstream including TQ/RFI register
  • Liaise with clients to ensure design considerations are understood in line with CDM requirements
  • Attend/Faciliate all Hazard studies and ensure all competencies are present during these processes so the robust, diverse design decisions are made with the correct people present
  • Manage design risk register and update key technical risks as they arise
  • Ensure designs are delivered putting safety first and that H&S and CDM risks are documented and understood
  • Keep up to date as regards engineering standards, systems and procedures including Client Specifications, British standards, codes and best practices
  • Provide regular updates to commercial team, project manager and client technical team
  • Prepare downstream technical specifications and particular specifications to allow supplier engagement
  • Provide technical governance to supply chain and align this with client requirements
  • Provide engineering authority and instruction to members of the team
  • Develop engineering systems and procedures as necessary to improve department function and efficiency
  • Complete technical tasks as required to meet the design management plan within area of expertise or ensure this is done by suitably experienced resource in line with the necessary deliverables where other engineering skills are required
  • Assess competency of supply chain, internal and external resources to ensure competency and safe design development against scheme requirements including relevant standards of best practice


The ideal candidate will have an Engineering Degree qualification and be working towards Chartered status and industry knowledge in Water/ Wastewater. It is essential that you have experience within a multi-discipline team in order to successfully deliver a full turnkey water and wastewater schemes to Water Companies.
